What's In Our Beard Oil And How It Benefits Your Beard

Beard oils have become so popular in recent years, as men all over the world are looking for ways to tame their wild mane. With beards coming back in fashion (and it looks as though they are here to stay!), beard oil are the go-to product of choice to help control a wild beard, soften and styling, and even to encourage beard growth.

All beard oils aren't made equal, with so many varying factors in ingredients, how do you know which is the right one to use? how do you know which oils you need for your beard?

The Sardar Co launched in early 2019 with a classic range of five beard oils. Each involving months of research, prototyping and testing (on real beards) to ensure the ingredients are perfect and the scent is exactly what you would expect and then some.

If you are passionate about your beard, you should know exactly what you are putting in to it.

Here's a breakdown of what's in our classic beard oil range, and what the benefits are:

Sweet Almond Oil

sweet almond beard oilSweet Almond oil comes from the edible part of the nuts produced by almond trees (they also produce bitter almonds). However edible almonds are selectively cultivated for their sweet taste. The oil from this nut is mild and hypoallergenic which naturally contains Vitamin E and Vitamin A. This helps to protect your hair and skin from oxidative stress and UV radiation damage.

If you suffer from acne, the Vitamin A in Sweet Almond Oil can help reduce symptoms, by penetrating the skin and breaking down the the dirt and oil that accumulates in your pores.

Sweet Almond oil is great for the scalp, but also has benefits for hair, including restoring the protective layer of oil which is usually stripped off from washing. This is the reason why your beard hair is usually dry and/or brittle.

Jojoba Seed Oil

jojoba seed beard oilPronounced "ho-ho-bah", jojoba is a plant that originates from Mexico and southern United States. The seeds from this plant are used to create a waxy type of oil, which has many benefits and is used in a wide variety of cosmetic products.

Jojoba oil is a natural moisturizer which helps to strengthen hair growth by dispersing oils from hair follicles. It has antibacterial and antioxidant properties which can help to keep the skin and hair follicles clear of infections.

The natural anti-inflammatory properties within jojoba seed oil can soothe inflamed skin and hair follicles. This causes thinning and reduced hair growth due to damaged hair cells, which obviously you would want to prevent if you want a great looking beard.

Argan Kernel Oil

argan kernal beard oilArgan oil natural plant oil, which derives from the kernels of the fruit of the argan tree. It’s been a culinary staple in Morocco for centuries, but is now used across the world in cosmetics and medicinal applications.

What makes this oil so beneficial is that it is rich in vitamin A, C and E (tocopherol), as well as containing antioxidants, linoleic acid and omega-6 acids. When applied,, this oil can help boost cell production and helps to lock in moisture, resulting in healthier and naturally shiny hair and skin.

More specifically, for beards, this oil can help produce thicker and stronger hair, by strengthening the hair follicles. It can also help repair split ends and reduce frizzy hairs, which allows hair to grow more consistently with less breakage.

Apricot Kernel Oil

apricot kernal beard oilSimilar to Argan Kernel Oil, the Apricot Kernel Oil is derived from the kernels of the fruit from the apricot fruit. Thought to have originated in China, Korea and Japan, these fruits are fully packed with beta-carotene and fiber.

Apricot Kernel Oil is rich in proteins, soluble sugars and fibers, whilst also being composed primarily of oleic acid and linoleic acid. It is widely used in a lot of beauty products due to its excellent softening and moisturising properties, that can help repair and protect skin, scalp and hair.

If you have oily skin or an oily beard, this oil works well to moisturise, as it is a very light oil which doesn’t leave your skin and hair greasy. When applied to damp hair, it can help seal in moisture and keep it hydrated and soft.

Grape Seed Oil

grapeseed beard oilGrape Seed Oil, as suggested by its name, is extracted from crushed grape seeds. This oil is quite common within cosmetic products due to its ability to balance out dry and oily patches on the skin. It is one of the thinnest and fastest absorbing oils, and combines well with thicker oils to help balance out the consistency.

Just like coconut and olive oil, Grape Seed Oil is an an effective natural hair moisturiser and conditioner. However, this oil has far more benefits due to it also containing omega-6 and omega-9. It helps combat hair issues such as hair loss and dandruff, while consistent use of this oil can also increase hair growth.

For beards, this means healthier and stronger hairs, which don’t appear greasy and with no dandruff or flaky patches on the skin. Generally, if you have a brittle and dry beard, grape seed oil will help restore your hair and give it a great shine.
